Does the cotillion waltz have to be danced to a clical song?

I'm having a debut/cotillion and I wanted to use the song "Can I have this dance?" from High School Musical 3 and my dad disapproves of it. He claims that I'm going out of the tradition and from what I have seen on youtube as far back as 2006 a lot of the debutantes didn't use a clical song. I was wondering if it's necessary to use a clical song. I am also trying to avoid a clical song because I recently attended a cotillion last weekend and no one really watched the performance of the waltz, even the adults were talking. I don't want to bore my court, my audience, and especially me with a song that's just isn't entertaining. No offense to the people who like clical music though.
