How is evil dealt with? Imaginative mind needed.?

How does a "god" - that is of the origin of many years ago such as Hercules ( really bad example) deal with evil, what is the punishment he enforces (not Hercules a god). You can make it up if your really imaginative but try to make the consequence affect the whole society or environment not just the person who did wrong.
