Was this a really mean way to say NO!?

This guy who is really sweet, but i'm just not ready for a relationship, asked me to go see a movie and go out to dinner and he would pay for everything he said. but like i said i'm not ready to date. so i said "ummmm uhhhh, i uhhhh can't bye!" i said that because i do like him but don't want to date. Is that a mean way to say NO?
