What to do for my simple, but fun Spring sweet 16 party?

I don't want to have a dance party, but I still want a really fun time. I could go either way- having just a small group of my girlfriends to celebrate, or a girl/guy party. I don't want anything extravagant or expensive, but just a fun night with friends. I was thinking of using a big white tent that we have and set it up in our backyard, then rent a movie projector and watch a newly released movie on it and have a dessert bar or something. Do you have any other ideas that would make the party more social or a good combination of things for girls and guys? I was worried a movie would be too uninvolved or boring for everyone... I want simple, but fun for my mid-May birthday. I could go for sundresses or completely casual wear. Thank you so much!
